What is a houseplant grow pot?
First off, lets cover the basics. A houseplant grow pot is the practical inner pot your plant lives in. Designed with drainage holes and room for healthy root development, it plays a crucial role in keeping your plant happy and thriving. You won't necessarily notice initially when a plant doesn't have one, but they still play a vital role. Sort of like underwear....

No! Unlike decorative outer pots, grow pots, or nursery pots, are all about function - helping manage water, airflow, and root growth. Whether you’re repotting a new plant or sizing up as it grows, a reliable nursery pot is essential. They allow for the plant to be properly looked after, rather than potted and forgotten.
We like to add a layer of pebbles beneath ours, which mean that even if you accidentally over-water, the excess can run off in to this sub layer, and the plant can stay elevated (in all ways!) and free from soggy root and pests. After all, over-watering is the most common cause of plant problems!
With a decorative pot you can easily lift out if you've over-watered, you can check root development, and check for pests too. Without them you're potting blind. They also make life so much easier when it comes to repotting. If you've ever tried removing a root-bound plan direct from a decorative pot then you'll know exactly what I mean.
